Well Pumps

Well pumps are pumps that are put inside wells to pump out water from the well to the surface. Well pumps can be broadly grouped into two; jet pumps and submersible pumps. The jet pumps can be further divided into shallow well jet pumps and deep well jet pumps. The submersible pumps are the deep well submersible pumps.

Shallow well jet pumps are used for shallow wells that are less than 25 feet deep. This is the least expensive type of good pump there is. Deep-well jet pumps on the other hand can be used for wells that are as deep as 100 feet. Shallow well jet pumps usually have only one pipe while deep well jet pipes have two pipes for deeper suction.

Jet pumps are powered by electric motors which power the impellers to pump water through a narrow outlet known as the jet. This outlet through which the impellers pump out water is located in front of the impellers. The jet is similar to the nozzle of a hosepipe and it is responsible for increasing the speed at which the water travels when pumped. As the water moves up, it is stored in the plumbing system. The shallow-well jet pumps need to be primed before they can be used.

Submersible well pumps are mostly used when the well is deeper than 100 feet. They are generally more efficient than jet pumps and do not use suction mechanisms to transport water. Instead, their impellers lift the water through the pump, to the surface, and into a water storage tank. Submersible well pumps have to be totally submerged in the water source to operate properly.

Although the different types of good pumps are suitable for getting water from a well, they have some major differences between them. Jet pumps have to be primed before they can be functional, but submersible pumps, though not self-priming, do not require priming before functioning. This is because the operating parts of a submersible well pump are always underwater, so they do not need any manual addition of water to function.

Submersible pumps to transport water to the storage tanks by pushing the water upwards, but jet pumps suck out the water through the outlet known as jet. Jet Pumps are found above the ground and not inside the well, so they use the hose-like jet to suck the water out. Unlike the submersible well pumps that are fully placed inside the well.

The submersible well pumps generally last longer than the jet pumps. That is, with the correct maintenance, you can use a submersible well pump for up to 15 years while a jet pump has a lifespan of just about 10 years or less, depending on the handling.

When a well pump gets bad or is about to get worse, it shows signs such as poor water pressure, the pump will be running constantly but water might not flow out from the faucets. Well pumps can be used for various purposes such as water supply for the home and residential areas. You can also use well pumps for commercial pumping of water, extracting water and water removal in the mining industry, and other industrial purposes as well.
