Chemical Pumps

Chemical pumps are specially fitted to pump liquids containing chemicals or liquid chemicals. The insides of chemical pumps are designed in a way that reduces their susceptibility to corrosion or abrasion from the high viscosity nature of the chemicals they are used to pump. Some chemical pumps have features that enable them to control the flow of the chemicals through them. These chemical pumps are suitable for applications that require the chemicals flowing out to be measured.

When choosing a chemical pump, you need to consider the specifications of the pump, depending on how you want to use it. Apart from the specifications, you also need to take into consideration the type of material used in making the chemical pump and its compatibility with the nature of the chemical you want to pump through it.

The specifications of  chemical pumps that you need to consider include the flow rate, operating temperature of the pump, pressure, horsepower and head of the chemical pump. The flow rate of a chemical pump simply refers to the quantity of chemicals that pump through it in every minute. This has to match with the volume of chemicals you intend to pump using the chemical pump and how fast you want it to pump.

The pressure of the chemical pump is another important feature because it determines what the pump can withstand over time. The pressure of the pump has to be higher than that of the system to which it is being applied.

You also need to know the temperature at which the chemical pump operates best as this helps you avoid situations of overheating.

Due to the highly abrasive and corrosive nature of chemicals, chemical pumps need to be made from materials that can resist the harsh nature of these chemicals. Thermoplastics and plastics, though one of the least expensive materials for chemical pumps, are highly resistant to corrosion by acidic chemicals.

Stainless steel alloys are resistant to rust and can withstand higher pressure than plastic materials. Cast iron is also a good material for chemical pumps because it is strong, has high pressure ratings and is resistant to abrasion.

Chemical pumps are more durable than the regular pumps due to the type of materials used in making them. A chemical pump can either be centrifugal or a positive displacement pump, depending on the pumping system you want to operate.

The magnetic drive pump is a type of chemical pump that is suitable for transporting very harsh chemicals without fear of spillage or leakage, through the use of centrifugal force which generates velocity to move the chemicals.

Air operated diaphragm pumps are also a type of chemical pumps, but with different specifications and varieties, depending on what is suitable for your system.

Centrifugal pumps are highly efficient in transporting chemicals due to the high velocity created by their impellers, which help to push out the chemicals speedily through an outlet.

There is also the lobe pump, which can be used for moving chemical substances as well, but is more suitable for transporting thicker liquids like creams and oils.
